Have a Nice Fright

Since I am in the blogging mood, I would like to review a movie I recently saw.

The movie is called "The Pursuit of Happyness" and stars Will Smith and his young son, who's name I am too lazy look up. The movie features various instances of a young african-american man who is continually screwed by the world. Luckily for him, he never gives up, and never turns to substance abuse. Due to his iron-clad determination, he is able to get a job as a stock broker, even though he had no post secondary education. Sounds great right? Feel good hit of the year?

It was, and I enjoy every single minute of the movie to vary degrees, bored to teary eyed. Nothing all that special about the movie, this is just a Will Smith movie remember. The end however, ruined the entire film for me. I was so shocked by the tenacity of who ever OK'd the move, that I am still scratching my head. The end of the movie breaks down like this.

Boss Dude: Son, you got the job!
W. Smith: Wow, thank you sir
Boss Dude: See you Monday champ
W. Smith narration as he runs out of the building: I call this moment in my life happiness
[Cheesy scene of Will and his son walking around enjoying "easier times" then fade to black]
White text on a black background: Will Smith went on to start his own firm, then sold a part of it for millions of dollars. [Translation: Cash some fat cheques from whitey and sell out, or stay poor as fuck.]

I'll will give it to the film maker, I am glad to hear that this fellow is slick with cash 24/7. However, are there no greater lessons to be learned? Did he just simply make millions? Is the story completely over now? How about he gave some of that money to some under privledged African American students to go to college? No? Oh, all he did was make fat cash. That's how to get happy, there is no other way.
