Wednesday, December 06, 2006One Step CloserMy seven minute long audio composition is finally done. That means one final down, two to go. It took me something like 8 hours of straight work (With only a few late night television breaks), and it kicked my ass. However, I like that fact that my hard work has made something that I am proud of. The driving premise to the piece is a loop that I lifted from Apple GarageBand, that is temporally manipulated to give the music direction. The loops starts unrecognizable, but as the loop slows down, you begin to hear a melody. The melody slows down, and begins to become delicate and sorrowful. I listened a few times and really got in to certain parts, and was cast out by certain other ones. It's a strange give and take that was probably born from my exhaustion. You can check out the song on MYSPACE and get back to me if you like it/have some tips. I found this new webpage called Take Pills Die Records. It's essentially a podcast that has "albums" instead of "episodes". Weighing in at around one hour per album, I'd say that it's a pretty good deal considering the cost ($0.00 actually). The music is IDM, glitch and avant-garde electronic music, so you may want to prepare yourself before listening if you value your mind. It may just get blown. This idea is actually a lot like my own, however I am doing 1.5 hours of the same type stuff, but on the radio. January 1st from 10:30 to Midnight I will be hosting a "Radio Art" bonanza. Bonanza is a terrible word to use, but it should be a fusion between established artists, and my own work blended to a solid pulp. Tune in! CKXU 88.3 FM Lethbridge, AB Canada! jW
Comments:
I really like your seven minute project a lot. I was wondering where the sample came from. Are you limited to using things from Garage Band and things you record yourse;f? (basically, the question being could I sample Madonna's Vogue)? I'm in that class next semester, with "Boon R"... ratemyprof has a smiley face and a chili pepper next to his name.
