Wednesday, December 31, 2003Happy New years to you all..... and "Jaron's top hated things of 2003"First off, I hate Fefe Dobson. Plain and simple I think the songs she sings are inane, whiny and all together terrible. She is somehow copying every hardrock artist out there and making a shame of it all by singing about things better left to pop stars. Second, I REALLY hate Evanescence. Not only did the local radiostation OVER PLAY the retarded "Wake me up" song, the song SUCKS to begin with. Seems to be the same lyrics OVER AND OVER AND OVER. Once again seems to be shitty pop music masked over to get a "new image". This is just Avril Lavigne who is just a Goth instead of a Sk8er punk beyotch. Linkin Park.... Two words that gramatically don't fit together, nor do I suppose they have any meaning at all. Alot like their songs.... very predictable and overall very poorely made. Brian H. brought up the fact that the nerdy guy sings crappy emotional lyrics, while the guy in the background tries to rap, or in some cases he just repeats a stupid line. Also.. who the fuck cares that they have degrees in stuff? Does that make them any better at preforming their shitty music? Fox. I fucking can't even handle these guys sometimes. Could they give reality TV a break? The trend is over, and we don't need them taking a loss and trying to milk another bandwagon for all it is worth once they realize that reality TV is no longer interesting. Show's like That's 70's show, Futurama (When they had it going strong), King of the hill, The Practice and Malcolm in the middle are acually good series that COULD bring you some money if you didn't piss around with them. Note to Fox... Make TV that people will CARE about.... stop making one hit wonder TV. I'll meander back into music with a dish out at Metallica. Worse metal song of 2003 would have to be St. Anger, just a sheer peice of trash. It hurts me to listen to this song. Looped lyrics, extremely loud and bloated snare drums.... was Lars seriously holding a gun to the bands head? Why was he given so much damn volume on this song? Casually listening to the single on the radio just make my ears bleed from the terrible production of the song, and a quick album listen later did a great job at making my hatred for Metallica stronger than a ostrich egg. Later days amigos......................... Saturday, December 27, 2003Top 10 Albums of 200310. Cold Play - A rush of blood to the head Hard to explain why this is a good album, very mellow with strong lyrics that feel good 9. AFI - Sing the sorrow AFI has always rocked with alot of charisma, even though this album was less "punk" than the previous attempts, I still liked it alot, hell maybe the less "punk" is what did it for me.... 8. The Darkness - Permission to Land Funnest revival of hair-metal ever... with some emotional power ballads to boot. Top drawer! 7. The Strokes - Room on fire This is a very mellow rock album. Plain and simple, nothing complex but just quality! 6.Super furry animals - Phantom Power Some great pyschodelic rock, that really work well with sarcastic and symbolic political lyrics. 5. Alexisonfire - S/t Great "screaEmo" with very powerful instrumentals, with backup vocals that just accent the enchanting screaming of the lead singer. 4. Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battle the pink Robots Came out at the very end of 2002, so I'm going to allow it. Loved this album so much, electronic and fun. 3. Johnny Cash - American IV : The man comes around The final recording from Johnny Cash, and he really goes out with a bang. Emotional lyrics and covers that really drive the meaning of the song to a new level. Amazing, and a stunning work that really spans the boundries of "country" and "rock" (wonderful NIN cover that ALL should check out). 2. Radiohead - Hail to the Thief Never been disapointed by Radiohead, and I shant think I ever will be. This album delivered all that I was expecting and more, beautifully surreal and wonderfully warm and mechanical at the same time. Radiohead really put together a winner here! 1. The Mars Volta - Deloused in the comatorium My favourite album of 2003, and of all time (So far). For those who haven't heard the album, I'd call it "Radiohead" meets "The red hot chilli peppers". That being said, I belive this album is a real winner just because it entrances me. The highs, the lows, the middle, just take me for a wonderful ride that you can tell is a in-depth story that is more complex than the most unique snowflake. Honorable mention: Jane's Addiction - Strays. Billy Talent - S/t. Metric - Old world underground where are you now? Thursday, December 25, 2003Merry Boxing day!Festive times all around!
Peace Wednesday, December 24, 2003Midnight Sushi club....Tonight, Chris B. and I had a good time making up some sushi for our good pals "Kristy and Sarah". It was great fun, we listened to the Beatles and some Darkness all while discussing whatever and eating/making sushi. I'm pretty sure everyone had some fun, so I've decided to start a club! This will be called the "Midnight Sushi Club", since we did it pretty late at night, and it is winter, it seemed very late and cool. So, from now on, everyone in the club will join us to chat about things and enjoy Sushi that has been hand crafted by "Chris-san and Master Jaron-san". I'm not sure when we can have the next meeting, but it'd be great if we could get some of you to post at the board with some suggestions and applications to join us! Sunday, December 14, 2003Culture here we come!So me (Jaron) and Chris went into Calgary today to make out weekly visit to the Calgary Buddhist temple, one thing lead to another, and we ended up spending 5 hours downtown. First, after we left the temple we went to a quaint 50's diner. Very authentic, since almost everything was vintage, not just retro-style. It is called Deluxe Diner, and I'd have to say that it is the BEST brunch that I have ever had. The place is REALLY popular, so sometimes you have to wait in line to be seated, but the wait is totally worth it (You get to drink coffee while you wait as well). From our amazing meal, me and Chris headed down to China town to buy some asian caligraphy ink for a project I have in the works. What started as a simple trip to get ink turned into a 3 hour adventure through the shops of china town. Needless to say, Chris and I were like kids in a candy-store, since we had such a amazing time in Japan 2 summers ago we were flooded with happy memories. Sadly, our thin wallets restricted us from re-living our memories through material possessions. However, we both picked up a thick stack of incense and I even got a Jpop CD. So all in all, I accomplished alot and I am glad I am such a cultured fellow! (Chris too) Hey kids! Let's share our feelings!I've created a web-based forum for us Airdrie kids to coincide with the Temple of Rant. You can visit, browse and sign up for the forum here Hope to see some of you guys there, it should be fun! So.... Is there anything else you are hiding from me?So last night I was told that there was going to be a concert at some warehouse in the pits of industrial Airdrie, and I was offended. I was acualy offended that there was this function going down, and no one cared to inform me 'til the night before. Not that I believe that I missed anything grand, but it could have been something even bigger than a stupid local band, what if it was the fucking MARS VOLTA coming to Calgary? Then how would you feel if they were playing and I missed it because you kept your information to yourselves? You guys don't seem to get that I put the comment box there to benefit both you AND me. For serious, next time you find out something cool, be SURE to share it with us all, don't keep it to yourself and think your all underground because only you knew about it. Share you info with me! Share it with all of US! I'll even post said information ON THE SITE! And I will credit you with providing this knowledge to the rest of us. Making the WHOLE world a better place. Friday, December 12, 2003Jesus said it himself, double dash is the SHIZNITOk, so he didn't acually say THAT verbatim, but he did appear in today's Penny-Arcade strip.... Linky Linky Funny shit eh? So anyhow, I think I will be going to New York.... Bye bye surround sound system. Meh, I've borrowed Counter-strike from my pal Macolm Knoll so I could play it abit before I buy it. That being said, I will leave you as I plan to shoot some mofos. Thursday, December 11, 2003To game or not to game?WIth Christmas just around the corner, a slew of videogames are spewing out the corporate pie hole. And I, aswell as my Geeky brethren are stuck in the middle. Not that it is a bad thing, but with a impending trip to New York possibly in the works, I've got a limited amount of money for throwing around. Well, I could just not go to New York, I mean that IS a viable solution. However, I really think that seeing ground-zero and watching Broadway plays is a pretty nice experience to uh.... Experience, and since my Japan trip pt. 2 got cancelled. I've had a super huge urdge to go somewhere! Seeing cool things is my passtime, if that can be considered a passtime. So I have decided that going back stage in NBC (And potentially seeing Conan O'Brien or the cast of SNL) is much cooler than playing videogames with my friends (But not by much...) Tuesday, December 09, 2003I'm angry at MSN messenger!!!Anyone else notice that the NEW Msn sucks? I'm not even going to add WHAT it sucks, I am just plain disapointed that I can't log on. Sunday, December 07, 2003ToR (temple of rant for the slow witted) ExclusiveFootloose interview with JARON WHITTINGHAM! (Part one)Tor: Thanks for letting me interview you Jaron Jaron: No problem, It is a pleasure to know that someone enjoyed Footloose as much as the cast did. Tor: First off, Is this your first musical? Jaron: Technically, my first musical had me as a toy that could talk. I don't remember much about it, but it was in grade 4, so I'm pretty sure I didn't have more than a few lines. I'd like to consider Footloose my first musical because I can't remember if I sang in the first one or not. Tor: Do you have any background in music or theatre? Or any experience that you brought to the show? J: None at all actually. Well, I guess I do LISTEN to a lot of music [laughs] however I've never had any formal training in either fields. T: Ok, now some general questions. How much time did you put into the play? J: A good 3 months, which is a long time for me. I've never really put so much time into a single thing before. Seems like a blink of a eye now. T: How did you get the part of Shaw, when plenty of other people had more experience? J: Actually, I didn't get picked for Shaw originally. At first I got cast to the part of Lyle, however the person who got Shaw got a full time job instead. The directors decided to ask me if I wanted to take the role of Shaw, and I accepted. It was not until a few hours later that I finally realized how large my part really was. T: Wow, I'm personally glad that the other guy quit. You did a stunning job. J: Thank you, I have gotten a lot of other praise from other people too. The Vice-principal had no idea that I was possibly capable of acting, and my entire family had no idea that I had any talent at all. However, coming from my family, the praise is a bit hard to take seriously since your family pretty much loves everything that you do. T: Did you run into any negative comments? J: Well my current girlfriend's parents aren't a big fan of me personally, so I think they weren't too impressed with my Footloose performance either. Meh, bullocks to them, I personally feel that I did the part justice, so I guess that is all that really matters. And with that we end Part 1 of the Jaron J. Whittingham interview. Have a good night folks! Monday, December 01, 2003Google Roulette: Episode 2 - Codename: LubeFirst off, The oddest and possibly most mind-bending...
