Thursday, September 30, 2004Airdrie is FUCKEDI'm coming home for the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, and methinks all of you are in for some trouble. Yes yes, hopefully there will be 3 days of being totally loaded with my A-town homies.. Expect some fucked up pictures from all the fun times. (Note to Jon Dyck: You won't be able to see on Monday) Enough about that... Lately I have been thinking about how our world has been bettered and destroyed by the internet. In one case: All the trash that some nerd would write on paper about "Sex & Star Trek", is now electronic and doesn't injure any trees. On the same lines, we have the electronic distribution of music, videogames and movies. Instead of buying a CD that takes raw materials to produce, I could just purchase digital music files off the net. Also, I can use Valve's "Steam" to download Half-Life 2 while sitting at my computer with my dick out*. On the complete other hand, we have to deal with the death of the album (The thought that if you could just buy one song off the album, artists will stop making albums that mean something or carry a significant theme), child pornography, internet stalkers and idiots who TYEP LEIKK ThIS!!!111111 Coming with all of that terrible junk is spy/adware which has almost completely crippled the use of the internet for a lot of inexperienced users. All it is doing is making malevolent programmers rich, while people's computers get fucked and advertisers see an increase of hits with no actual sales...... (At this point I will rant about internet advertising.) What are these companies thinking? Would you really want to buy products from a company who runs up to you in the streets, kicks you over and tells you to buy viagra? Then everytime you go out on the street, SUVs drive by you really fast and throw pamphlets at you. Would any company sell anything with this type of marketing? No, and I don't think that with all the effort and annoyance these spammers put out, they get all that much money in return. Hopefully, we will get a sect of vigilante Anti-spam terrorists to find, infiltrate and destroy these web-infecting operations. And with that, I bid you farewell....... Tuesday, September 28, 2004New Media Wizard!I've finally got my first assignment graded in New Media 1000 (the intro to my major) and I got 90% Here is the stunning work of master Photoshopping! Before After There you have it! Wasn't she terribly ugly before I altered her face using science and computers? Actually I think she was lovely and we just made her look "Hollywood". (Try and guess all of what I did to her portrait using the blogback comment system, and I will see if you are correct!) Monday, September 27, 2004Tiki party pictorial picture pageHere are all the pictures from the Tiki party. Which was hella fun for the short time I was there. I didn't realize but I took almost 45 pictures, but had to ditch some for obvious digicam reasons. HERE ARE THE PICTURES!!!! That's all folks. Sunday, September 26, 2004Posting like a BanditWell, a whole 4 massive days has passed since my last post. I think I should be hung at the gallows, the internet gallows. Anyways, past few days have been tired and busy. After winning Name that Tune, I was pretty spent for energy and just crashed. So all I really did was go to school and work, which is great. Saturday night, there was a grand fiesta that I got to attend (I'll post pictures later). The great hosts were nice enough to risk eviction and let us party at their home-made Tiki bar. We drank Rum slushies which lead me to become drunk, which normally isn't a problem. However, after getting drunk, I quickly had to leave the party to go to work. Yes, yes, I got drunk then went to work. Not like I'm a firefighter or anything, but it was very wierd getting paid to preform tasks while under the influence of alcohol. On friday I recieved 3 DVDs from the great people over at Zip.ca, which is a new internet DVD renting system. Basically, you just choose like 20 DVDs you want to watch, then depending on availability, they send you 4 of those DVDs the next day. You keep those 4 DVDs as long as you like, then when you are done, you mail them back (They pick up the tab). After you've mailed them back, they will send you more DVDs to fill up your 4 available DVD slots. All for about 25 dollars a month, I think it beats renting from a normal place and having cable. I think I may be able to quit my job over the winter! It's not a terrible job really, but I think if I can keep my spending to a minimum and work my ass off for a few more weeks, I think I can bank enough funds to live through the cold season unemployed. This is a big maybe, but it will be a very rad maybe if I can pull it off. The only thing I really have to worry about is paying bills. Which is super lame, but must be done. Ok, well I've posted enough about nothing, and the sun is coming up. So I think I will leave you guys with some peace, love and good will for all. -Outro for Jaron --Jaron W. (I heart Jodi E.;)) Wednesday, September 22, 2004Name that tune BONANAZA!!!Last night all our dreams came true. All our hard worked had finally paid off, we won "Name that Tune Night". Team "Suzanne, but Sue for short" took first place at their first ever "name that tune" game. We were drunk, we were proud, we were winners. Anyways, that is all I wanted this post to convey, except that they seem to belive that Cat Stevens has terrorist ties. What the Eff? Could the man that sung "Wild World" possibly do something bad? Tuesday, September 21, 2004Travelling=GoodI've been seeing these posters around school lately about a trip to Thailand next summer. 3500 dollars and that includes almost anything you actually need, with prices in Thailand being really low due to the strangle hold that a certain country has over the entire world. I'm thinking I should try to save up some money to try and hit this trip up, as I think it would be amazing. I mean, how cool would it be to ride and elephant into the jungle, get off at a tropical water fall and swim the afternoon away? Well I am seriously considering doing this now. That is, if I don't go to Japan next summer with the City of Airdrie. However, living in Lethbridge may ruin my chances. Here is the link to the company's website. Monday, September 20, 2004Sky Captain in flight... Afternoon delightI saw "Sky Captain and the World of Tommorow" tonight and I was entertained to the core. While nothing about this movie gives it a "Oscar" feel (except for the CGI which I will get to later) I know that this is the type of movie I would have pissed my pants for when I was 10. And since I belive I am still really a kid at heart, I really really enjoyed this movie. The CGI was wild and out of control. I think the only real things in the movie are the actors and their clothes. All the shots were made infront of a green screen, then the amazingly huge CGI scenes were animated. The entire movie has that amazing hollywood blur to it, and perfectly resembles an era flick. Although I am pretty sure some of the blur was to hid the fact that everything was green screened. Anyways, the movie was entertaining enough to be worth my 8 bucks. In other news, Kristy's Mom, siblings and Grandparents came to visit. When they arrived we had enough food in the house to feed us for 2 weeks. When they left, we had enough corn for a hoedown in Kansas. Seriously, they went to Costco and I guess on the way they bought a big fucking bag of corn. View the Pictures HERE Friday, September 17, 2004Ill, but not in the good "Hip-hop" wayMy cold has permutated from a simple head cold with stuffy nose to a terribly painful cough and stuffy nose. I should be trying to get rest, but my job really doesn't allow for much resting as I got home at 3:30 this morning. With classes at 9 am, I'm SOOO thankful for caffeine. The worst part about the trip to/from work was that I'm carless right now. That means I had to ride my bike up and down one hell of a hill. Actually it is a valley deal, so there is 4 hills altogether. (2 down, 2 up) Truthfully, going down the hill is some fun riding. Going up is not all that fun, but I enjoyed yelling and coaching myself. I mostly just told myself that not reaching the top was a sign of weakness, and that with a positive attitude I could climb that pussy hill like nothing. Thursday, September 16, 2004Hax0ring little kidsI seem to have stumbled upon a new wireless network around that I think belongs to the elementary school that is situated right across the street from me. My new goal is to effectively and stealthily hax0r ther3 internuts! Late edit: After 5 minutes of trying, I found that their network was protected by a 13 character password I doubt I could crack. So for now, I will refrain from stealing the internet from little kids. Elementary School IT tech's: 1 Jaron: 0 A good readHere is a GREAT read about one girls real-life experience during the Republican Party Conference. She was taking photographs of a protest, and before she knew it she was arrested and put into a terribly uncivil holdings. This really shows you how the patriot act can have the fat cats laughing and swishing brandy, and the working class, students and anti-war activists crying and starving. Anyways, enough of my opinion on the Patriot Act. Here is the LINK Wednesday, September 15, 2004Droppin' the BombSo I guess that I will drop my "big secret" as you've been waiting long enough to hear it. I'll be volunteering at the campus radio station! That's right cowpokes, I may be broadcasting at 100 Watts within the month! Although a radioshow isn't promised yet, I also signed up to join the music commitee. So I think that means I will be getting CDs to review for the station and newspaper that I will effectively post here as well. Now you get more content are more of me not going poor from buying too many CDs. All in all, don't be surprised if I add some more graphics that make reference to me being on the radio. Check out the station at CKXU Monday, September 13, 2004House GymnasticsI had to post about this before I forgot. House Gymnastics has to be the coolest "art" form I have seen for awhile. Super interesting poses done by ballsy artists. Expect some pictures from me apearing here and hopefully on the website.
Thought I'd edit this post and add this little link: Gabe is the son of Mike "Gabe" Krahulik (From the Penny Arcade fame). Good luck to him and his new family. A few changes..So I've streamlined the main page a bit, as there is now only 30 days per page. There was 80 before, but I found it took too long to load every time. You can view older posts using the archive links at the bottom. Also, the answer to that secret that was supposed to be revealed awhile back, will be revealed on Wednesday I belive. Also, today was the first day I had to ride my bike to school. It worked out rather well and I only almost got hit by a car once. This week is "Clubs rush week" so random clubs put up booths all around, I noticed there was infact a surfing club. Not that us landlocked albertans can do much surfing, but I think surfing is really rad and signed up anyways. Hopefully I will be able to go on their reading week surf trip to Tolfino, BC. In sickness and in HealthMy cousins wedding was this weekend, so I bussed my ass out to Manitoba for a pretty fun wedding. I'm a cousin on her Mom's side of the family, and I must say that their side fits in pretty well with our own. Although the pinnacle of the whole thing was a Scottsman who was best mates with the groom. He told some good stories and ended up almost cursing a blue streak at the end of his speech. Very entertaining, as I belive practically everyone was drunk. Getting into druken mischief with your extended family is good fun, if nothing else. In other news, I have caught a cold, and it is not fun at all. Although, in Japanese we are learning about the hospital and how to tell people you are sick, and I guess that has a hint of irony in it. Thursday, September 09, 2004Fuck my stupid job Pt.2So after class today, I wrote a letter to my boss telling him how I felt and that I wanted an apology. Well, I got it. He didn't really admit he was wrong, but he gave me one of those "I hate to see good workers do less than what I know they can do" lines, which kind of makes me feel good.(Remember that you CAN solve disputes without cursing, fighting or burning bridges) Now that we have that resolved, I'll talk about something else. I've got a 20 hour bus ride tommorow after class, so don't expect updates for the weekend. I'm going to manitoba for my Cousin's wedding, so I won't be back until Sunday. Since 20 hours is a very long time, I bought 4 new CDs and a book. The book is by Canadian author Douglas Coupland and is entitled "Hey, Nostradamus!", I think I am in for a good read. The 4 CDs I got are as follows: Bjork - Medulla Sasha - Involver Various Artists - Chilloutmix 3 Various Artists - Delivery Room I've been digging electro music alot lately, and working the club makes me crave chillout music more than anything else, so I think I am wired for the 20 hours. I'll try and put together some reviews for these albums once I get some better listening in. Fuck my stupid jobSorry to use such bold and large profanity, but the manager at Spin has gone too far. Doing as much as telling me I am a useless child (not exact quote) and giving me shit for not leaving my bar "Spotless". Since I'm supposed to be going to class at 9:25 this morning, I worked really hard to get everything done and leave ASAP. I asked my direct superior if I could leave as I belived that I had left the bar cleaner than when I took control of it. Being told I could leave, I quickly found my friend who I told I would give a ride so we could swiftly leave. Although he had a minute or so of work left, so I waited. Noticing a single pool ball left on the table, I attempted to shoot it in with a impossible bank shot. Oddly, it went in and a bartender asked me to play a game with him. I began playing out of politeness (although I am a terrible pool player) and was promptly given a stern warning about how "Your bar should be fucking spotless, your fucking playing pool while the owner is walking around". I told him that my supervisor told me I could leave, and that I was merely wait for Kory so I could give him a ride home. Scrambling to find Kory, I was called to my bar and given shit about some cups and staws left underneath my bar (Which I couldn't see in the first place since the lights were dimmed). Not only did I get in trouble, I was also humiliated and reffered to as a 10 year old. I quickly remedied the "mess" and quickly left the premesis. So I'm thinking about quitting, since I don't think I should be getting shit for something I was told to do by a superior. If your supervisor tells you to sweep, and then your manager yells at you for it, is it your fault for following an order? Should I get paid 6 bucks an hour to get tossed around like a rag doll by some drunk? Fuck no I say, so tommorow I am writing that asshole of a manager a letter asking him to apologize to me or I will promptly quit without a seconds hesitation. -Agitated in Alberta Wednesday, September 08, 2004Some (Multi-Topic) postingPart 1: My first official day of classes was today, yippie! I've got Art History, Drama, New Media and Japanese this semester. Art history is my only class that actually makes me think I am in University so far. The entire class is lectures, with a mid-term exam, final exam and a written project. Other than that, my drama prof wants to be called "Frank". All my other classes just seem like extensions of high school, except that in New Media, we actually use computers that don't suck. Bleh, the new media lab uses PCs, and although I started computing on a PC, it is just too wierd getting used to. Windows seems like a step backward from OSX to me. However, I think if they turned on the jazzy effects that makes WinXP look more futuristic, I'd feel a bit more at home. Part 2: Joey the Cat "A.k.a Salamander Jones" My Roomie Kristy brought her cat named Joey to live with us for the duration of her stay in my humble abode. Which is very cool, I like cats, but forgotten how much I really liked them. It is awesome just to have a passive companion that just does things for your own amusement. Although he is already named Joey, I have decided that "Salamander-Jones" was a more fitting name. I'm kind of wierd like that, I enjoy making up names that amuse me more than they really should. Part 3: ESP!!! A few weeks back I wrote my friend Chris B. a long letter about my adventures in Lethbridge. Included in the letter was a DVD that I told Chris he NEEDED to watch. It was "Waking Life" and is about dreaming, and for those who don't know it covers alot of philosophical theories about life. Anyways, a little while before this, Chris was talking to a raver from B.C about this same movie and ended up watching it and loving it. Anyways, so I sent Chris this DVD via snail mail and it arrived at his house in a few days just like you'd expect the postal service work. Little did I know, Chris had already purchased the DVD on eBay and was waiting in the mail for it. WOW!, 2 seperate lives running almost parallel, amazing you might think. However the story takes a funny turn. Upon checking his mail box for the letter I said I was sending and his newly eBay'd DVD, he discovered both packages. How could that be? Both DVDs coming on the exact same day, it is quite a phenomenon to say the least. (For those who don't know, Me and Chris are much the mystic sages of Airdrie. Both former Student Council presidents, we often go on adventures to seek out truth, beauty and culture. All adventures end with us drinking coffee and talking about our many theories of the universe and the meaning of life.) That's it for now. Monday, September 06, 2004Backbreakaz Unite! So the Atown backbreakaz (A wierd name Matt made up for our group of friends) came to visit me in Lethbridge all the way from Airdrie. We mostly got drunk and hit on girls, but beside that, we hosed down Dan. It was fucking great. Here are the pictures... I took some low-quality video too, but I took them potrait and don't know how to switch them in iMovie. Dan 1 Dan 2 Dan 3 Dan 4 Dan 5 Dan 6 Dan 7 Yes, that white stuff IS shampoo. Friday, September 03, 2004I'm gunna go to AmericaSo apparently my new house isn't all that far away from America. I guess it is closer to drive to Montana than it is to drive back home. With that in mind, I am going to go to America just because I've only been there once before. Also, I think I will buy some goods that don't have french on them, as well as some crazy cigarettes in those wierd celophane/paper packages. Other than purchasing american things because they are american, I think I want to go to Wal-mart and look at fat people ("jokes"). Work tonight was funny, I pretty much sat behind my bar and made myself look busy. I mostly watch as people around me do bad things (Drink, Smoke, grope) so I think I am getting paid pretty well. Only bad thing is that some of the employees are retards, and some are living in a non-stop highschool drama. If all that wasn't bad enough, some uglies were making out in front of bar. 2 nasty girls going at it, probally trying to impress their friends with their drunken Bi-shenanigans. Even though it was 4:30 when I got home from work, I decided to go to Denny's for some breakfast with Ben and Kory (my new friends). Damn those guys are a riot, Kory is in his late 20s and owns a Cookie franchise. He is bitter about women and allways trys to give me advice that usually involves me running as fast as possible from any and all girls trying to start any type of relationship with me. Ben on the other hand, is all into the ladies and has them hanging all over him. So the Jaded divorced guy, the Ex-boy band member and Me, the sexually retarded guy make for some pretty hilarious conversation about girls. Anywho, late night Denny's rocks. Ok, that is it for my inane ranting. My big secret should be revealed by Monday, so peace and peaches to you all. End Program - [Jaron.exe] program ended Shutdown.... Thursday, September 02, 2004There is a big secret Brewing! So I've got some news that I really can't spread around yet as it is un-confirmed. However, I belive I may have a shocker of a update/site overhaul for everyone. Who knows, maybe we'll get some actual visitors. Instead of me yelling at my friends to visit. In other confirmed news, I put up some google ads. I hope it is not too much of an eyesore. Click throughs make me some money, and since they are based on what I type, I hopefully won't be advertising things that suck. Peace out, and remember that Freaks and Geeks rules. Picture UpdateTook an updated picture of myself just to show some peeps back home what I look like after a month of living alone......
Peace..... Wednesday, September 01, 2004WiFi, and FUNSo I got a home phone line as well as ADSL internet at my new place! Hurrah for everything. Now that classes for me are just a meer week away, I am going to start fretting about how different university is going to be and how I may have a heart attack sometime between now and when classes start. Not much has happened since my last post, except I called Kristy today and it turns out she is not moving until Friday, which sucks a lot. P.s Apple just came out with a new generation of the iMac, equipped with a G5 processor and all,(for you to look at). |
