Friday, July 28, 2006Soy LieutenantWork is hard to manage with a lot of internetting. Too many movies have been watched, just killing time until school comes back. School should be a great time, I'm excited to be productive, but it is going to suck to be poor again. Speaking of being poor, I will be checking out Soy Captain and The Darby and Joan Club, Friday at the Tongue N Groove. Should be a killer time as always, not a few days after that, they will be playing AGAIN. Come out July 31st to see them play with Vancouver's own "Greenbelt Collective", which features TERROR!, OK Vancouver OK, and A Relative Distance. Both shows should be a kicker and a half. My show is on the 3rd of August and should also be some fun. I have no real idea how it is going to go, everything is a little hectic to think about. I should have T-shirts for sale, and they cost 5 dollars, same with some EPs. Technically the EP isn't finished in the form I would like it to be, but I think I may just release a few songs to let people hear what we're about. Rock Monday, July 24, 2006The Best iPod in SeptemberCDs in my collection have been building up without enough listening. It sucks, but when I get off work, I find it hard to sit down and take a listen. This makes most of my music listening based on what I play on my radioshow. There is nothing wrong with this of course, but a whole album is a lot different from a few tracks. Thankfully school is coming back, and in addition to some new releases, September should leave me some time to enjoi some music while bus riding, and general around school loafing. Hurrah for my iPod. The Eraser by Thom Yorke is a pretty cool album. Nothing breath-taking, but I really enjoyed the minimalism, and if you are a Radiohead fan, you will no doubt like this disc. Kristy described a review she heard that called the sound "Radiohead missing some instruments", and that is what it is. Not a bad thing in anyways, but a little different. I also just got the much hyped Gnarls Barkley, which I have only heard the single from. It seems to be getting a lot of radio play for a Danger Mouse track. At first I was sure the song was a new single of a K-os album, pretty over played, but I didn't pay much for the CD, so I am kind of interested to hear it. Best regards, JaronW Saturday, July 22, 2006Age Old PracticeClerks 2 was fantastic. It's funny, warm, offensive, everything I ever wanted in a sequel. I loved the original B&W Clerks, as most I know do, however I was a little scared of being disappointed by Kevin Smith. Jersey Girl was a film that really did nothing for me. It was a good Hollywood flick, but it wasn't very funny, and the characters didn't touch me at all. Clerks 2 is better, it's really offensively hilarious, and there is a relationship plot as well. The main characters battle out the relationship blues of their 30's, and the secondary characters deal with relationship problems like "Pussy Trolls" and 'Racist Grandmas'. Of course, a Pussy Troll lives in the vagina of a Christian female, and will bite the penis off of any man that inserts. That's pretty fucked up, no? I think so too, that's why I love Clerks 2. Tuesday, July 18, 2006Jump AroundI want to tell everyone I know about World Jump Day. I haven't been to this website in a few years I think, and I forgot all about it's message of making the world better by attempting to change the world's orbit. Would this be insane if this worked? Apparently they are close to having enough registered jumpers to make a difference, however the number of people who sign up and the number of jumpers will probably vary a lot. Sorry there have not been many posts as of late, but I will make up for it soon enough. Wednesday, July 12, 2006LivingThe title says it all really. I have been busy for a little while now, nothing really important, but still things to do. I left my laptop over at my pal Brendo's house so we could try and put some musical stylings together. We were a bit rushed, but I was impressed with what we were able to put together for the time restraint. On August 3rd at the Tounge and Groove we will be playing a live set, so it should be interesting if nothing else (Plus there will be some artists and band really worth paying money to see). I'll leave you with a quote from P.J. O'Rourke: "Never fight an inanimate object" Monday, July 03, 2006Why Stupid People Shouldn't Control the InternetAs Wired points out, certain people who don't seem to fully understand the structure of the internet, really want to alter the neutrality of it. For an idea of how the internet really works check this out at "How Stuff Works". Sunday, July 02, 2006HalfApparently, summer is officially half over for me. Luckily, half means two more months, rather than just one when I was back in highschool. A lot of stuff still needs to be done, like the following: I hope everyone had a safe and happy Canada Day, as I had a pretty good time myself. I missed the fireworks, but lately I have been thinking about how I'm no longer impressed by Fireworks the same way I used to be. They are still pretty impressive, but I guess I was really impressed as a child, and they just seemed to get less interesting from there. Good talking with you again, have a good July. |
