University On a Plane, or, The Zipper: The Ride of the Inconspicuous Hand-Job

School is coming pretty soon, at first I was dreading the day, but now I am excited. I am excited until exams, which are never fun, and it will not be blogged or spoken of again.

Martine's is playing On The Road as read by David Carradine on her radio show, with backing music from various "Boards of Canada" albums, and it is changing my life. If reading on the road in the middle of my first summer alone was not good enough, then BoC with OtR really takes the cake. If you have not read On the Road, I full suggest it. If you have ever wanted to travel accross a continent like a beatnik nomad, then this is the book for you. I personally rode from Calgary to Lethbridge more times that I could count, and everytime I just wanted to keep driving. North or South, it didn't even matter to me, I just wanted to get lost somewhere.

I personally find that the area around Lethbridge/Cardston/Ft. Mac has some really tempting road signs. There is Cardston, which has a giant Mormon temple which I really want to see, there are signs for the American border as well as Waterton. I really want to explore all of those places, but I always chicken out at the last minute when making the decision between the road I have travelled and the road I may never take.

I finally got to take a peek at "Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump", which has to be one of the most interesting things in the area (and if you didn't know, Lethbridge is hardly a stone's throw away from 2 World Heritage sites).

Well, enough for today, my intensity was all sucked away by the "Whoop-Up Days" midway, where I ate mini-donuts, and won 7 dollars on slot machines.

Shambhala on a Plane

In seven days I did two of the most spectacular things that I have ever experienced. Firstly, I spent 4 days among the dance frenzied, drug fueled, incense smelling, sleep deprived, and the nude. Shambhala was everything I thought it would be, and so much more. One of the wildest things I saw the entire time, I was there was a rather psychedelic and strange puppet show on the beach around sundown. The Funginears, a group of renegade Fun Engineers that come live and direct from the Krystal Unicorn Fortress. I was having troubles following the story line, but I am pretty sure that all the characters are strange animals that live in a magical land. The main character was half unicorn, half monkey, half robot, and was named Paragon. "The Monkeycornobot", or "Unikeybot", could beat box lessons to everyone about how to be a good kid, and how to hold your composure while seeing naked women. Soon, the king of the entire fortress beat boxed on a woman's breasts, entitled it "Boob-boxing" and inspired the hearts of men and women everywhere.

The second thing I did in one week happened to star Samuel L. Jackson, and featured certain creatures on a plane.

Commie Fuck

I am leaving town for 5 days in order to have a really great time in Nelson BC, at the Shambhala music festival, so updates will be even worse than before. I will get back to a better routine of art, music and culture once school starts and Lethbridge gets some more of those 3 things.

Boing Boing Had a funny little post about a guy who simply called their voice mail to let them know that they happen to be "Commie Fucks" for posting a story about how to scan money in to Adobe programs. He left a voice mail that can be heard here. I took it upon myself to ask the fellow named Bonnaventure James and his friends "The Deluxe Belgium" to do a absurdist remix of the call. You can download/listen to the remix on his MySpace Page, or if you want you can download a lo-fi version from this webserver (if you hate myspace or something, but remember that bandwidth costs money) commiefuck.mp3.

Also, listen to some of the other tracks, and add him as a friend or leave a comment if you already are one. Best regards and kudos!

Food

I finally did a full listen-to of "St. Elsewhere" by Gnarls Barkley and I must say that I understand the hype, but I'm not going to be fully buying in to it. Actually, I am listening to it right now, I must say that the beats are rather addictive, but not really immersive enough. Like a so-so cigarette that you smoke because you are addicted, but the smoke tastes bad, and it's over too fast. Another really good band that just released an album is Asobi Seksu, the new album is called "Citrus" and is really quirky, light, sweet and poppy shoegazing rock and roll. A lot of adjectives in that sentence, but it's all true. Fragile lyrics and dreamy guitar, it's all there!

I had some really good pasta last night with Martine. Deliciousness was no doubt the middle name of the person who invented it, and I thank the server much for bringing us our dishes in a prompt manner, and suggesting an acceptable wine. We love you and we hope you enjoyed your ten dollar tip.
