Thursday, September 28, 2006WritingI have been writing a lot more than usual, but none of it are going in to the internet. Most of the stuff is for class, except for a review of the new "Junior Boys" album. That should be going in to the student newspaper today. I know it's just a hobby, but I get real jazzed when I get a chance to throw feelings down on to paper. Most writing is in play form, as I am taking a class on dramatic writing fundamentals. I always thought plays were awkward to write because I was never comfortable writing dialogue. I think I get uncomfortable with the idea of telling someone what to say. Goodness gracious, it seems the more I sleep, the sleepier I get. Maybe I am just planning my nights poorly, but when I try and stay up a little later than usual, I feel like I could sleep for a day. The last days of fall are upon us, and nothing is left but shorter days, and snow. +Bananatree Thursday, September 21, 2006Rock Stars Kidnapped my SonWow, long time no blog. Nothing has really happened to warrant a lot of posting, so I have been very lenient about what I post about. That has amounted to nothing, and that is kind of upsetting, as I used to be on a rather good semi-frequent schedule. I find I am a lot busier than I was in the past years, which I think will help me get a better work ethic down for when I graduate, and then I will lose my job if I don't do assignments. Everybody wins. Everybody except my blog readers. They will suffer until the end of time. In other news, I saw a band called "Fun 100". They played the Tongue and Groove during an open mic, and it was a rather interesting show. Not only did Fun 100 attempt to tear the roof off the place with a hot blend of nerdy punk rock and Synth rock, but a few local talents sang their hearts out on the stage. Kinda new Lethbridge band "Things Gametes" (I think that is the spelling)also left a pint of blood and sweat on the TnG stage in a very rocktastic fashion. I am very excited to hear more from them, and you can probably catch them around town in the next few weeks. Later Days, Thursday, September 07, 2006FRST DY of SCHLMy first official day of classes today, and I already have come to the realization that 5 classes is too many for this semester. My writing class has me writing 1000 words a week, and all of my other classes involve one intense project after another. As much as I want to take an anthropology class, I feel that something more important to my degree will suffer if I do not drop it. I can always hang out in the summer and fill up some extra classes, I don't think I will be missing all that much by not taking this class. I got a chance to give a good listen to "The Looks" by MSTRKRFT, and I am very proud and pleased to have it in my collection. The whole CD feels like Daft Punk and DFA 1979 had a sweet little love child. Bitchin' hooks, killer synths, rock and roll attitude, danceable as shit, everything that I think electro music should be. I give it TWO robot thumbs up. Saturday, September 02, 2006They Played Lethbridge Didn't They?"They Shoot Horses Don't They?" finally played in Lethbridge to an enthusiastic crowd at the Tongue and Groove. Following Lethbridge's own "Ran!", the Horses used their unique blend of pop, rock and noise to blow the figurative roof off the venue. Loud and shouting is a good way to describe the vibe that filled the TnG, after every song was enthusiastic cheers, and during most songs yelling replaced backing vocals. Check out They Shoot Horses on Kill Rock Stars or at their official website |
