Killing in the name of...?

So the former president of Iraq, Saddam Husssein has been hung after being found guilty of killing over a hundred of his own people. However, the current president of a another sovereign nation, who's actions are responsible for even more deaths, still lives and expects no trial.

Ok, that was sensationalistic, but it's really upsetting when said president can say something as evil as "[The execution is an] important milestone on Iraq's course to becoming a democracy" [Source]. How is the trial and murder of a person a "Milestone" in democracy? Could Saddam have simply lived in confinement for the rest of his life, and democracy still succeeded? Why are Islamic militants in Africa allowed to rule as tyrants with out even a word about "Democracy" from the Bush administration?

Let's hope some good can come of this.

Have a Nice Fright

Since I am in the blogging mood, I would like to review a movie I recently saw.

The movie is called "The Pursuit of Happyness" and stars Will Smith and his young son, who's name I am too lazy look up. The movie features various instances of a young african-american man who is continually screwed by the world. Luckily for him, he never gives up, and never turns to substance abuse. Due to his iron-clad determination, he is able to get a job as a stock broker, even though he had no post secondary education. Sounds great right? Feel good hit of the year?

It was, and I enjoy every single minute of the movie to vary degrees, bored to teary eyed. Nothing all that special about the movie, this is just a Will Smith movie remember. The end however, ruined the entire film for me. I was so shocked by the tenacity of who ever OK'd the move, that I am still scratching my head. The end of the movie breaks down like this.

Boss Dude: Son, you got the job!
W. Smith: Wow, thank you sir
Boss Dude: See you Monday champ
W. Smith narration as he runs out of the building: I call this moment in my life happiness
[Cheesy scene of Will and his son walking around enjoying "easier times" then fade to black]
White text on a black background: Will Smith went on to start his own firm, then sold a part of it for millions of dollars. [Translation: Cash some fat cheques from whitey and sell out, or stay poor as fuck.]

I'll will give it to the film maker, I am glad to hear that this fellow is slick with cash 24/7. However, are there no greater lessons to be learned? Did he just simply make millions? Is the story completely over now? How about he gave some of that money to some under privledged African American students to go to college? No? Oh, all he did was make fat cash. That's how to get happy, there is no other way.

Enjoy the Silence

Last night the Slice in Lethbridge was bumping with some sick kareoke action. I must say that Tuesday nights at that establishment, are among the best in the city. We all like to so much in fact that we are throwing a Valentine's Day dance there. The date and bands are tentative, but I assure you it will be a very good time. Stay tuned for more details!

Is it wierd to anyone else that TIME is calling "You" the person of the year? I think it's weird, but it is about damn time. You really make the internet what it is. Way to go! I love you.

Good Vibrations

I'm messed up, and there is no where to run.

Ignore that, that's just some run-off from the past few days. I've been working super hard at my job, which I could blog about, and have it be somewhat interesting, but it'd be the same old thing. Customers, co-workers, drama, lack of drama, being single, blah blah blah. The new year and the new semester is coming, am I ready for it? Of course I am, if I can kick this red wine and pot habit.

I'll be back in the new year with a fresh outlook, and everyone will enjoy it.

Blogger updated it's software, so I have tags now.

Possible Christmas Present?

I bought this painting from a friend and I am very excited about the whole thing.
Mike's painting
The artist is Mike Eubank, and please do not worry, I am not keeping the art there.

One Step Closer

My seven minute long audio composition is finally done. That means one final down, two to go. It took me something like 8 hours of straight work (With only a few late night television breaks), and it kicked my ass. However, I like that fact that my hard work has made something that I am proud of.

The driving premise to the piece is a loop that I lifted from Apple GarageBand, that is temporally manipulated to give the music direction. The loops starts unrecognizable, but as the loop slows down, you begin to hear a melody. The melody slows down, and begins to become delicate and sorrowful. I listened a few times and really got in to certain parts, and was cast out by certain other ones. It's a strange give and take that was probably born from my exhaustion. You can check out the song on MYSPACE and get back to me if you like it/have some tips.

I found this new webpage called Take Pills Die Records. It's essentially a podcast that has "albums" instead of "episodes". Weighing in at around one hour per album, I'd say that it's a pretty good deal considering the cost ($0.00 actually). The music is IDM, glitch and avant-garde electronic music, so you may want to prepare yourself before listening if you value your mind. It may just get blown. This idea is actually a lot like my own, however I am doing 1.5 hours of the same type stuff, but on the radio. January 1st from 10:30 to Midnight I will be hosting a "Radio Art" bonanza. Bonanza is a terrible word to use, but it should be a fusion between established artists, and my own work blended to a solid pulp. Tune in! CKXU 88.3 FM Lethbridge, AB Canada!
