Best of 2007, or Bo2007

A few things that were good for 2007: Beowulf was mega intense and entertained mindlessly. Darjeeling Limited was another warm hearted quiet epic from Wes Anderson, the movie spiritually changed by Owen Wilson's attempted suicide. Simpson's movie was good enough for a long time fan, could have been better, but a worthy effort. Across the Universe made me fall in love with the Beatles again, still could have been better, but great anyhow. Concerts: LCD Soundsystem, Daft Punk, Girl Talk, MSTRKRFT, Broken Social Scene, Modest Mouse, Bright Eyes, Square Waves, Bonnaventure James and the Deluxe Belgium. It was all so much fun, let's all work together for a wonderous 2008.

A couple of my favourite songs from 2007:

Intro - RJD2 (From the Album "The Third Hand")
Chores - Animal Collective (From the Album "Strawberry Jam")
Someone Great - LCD Soundsystem (From the Album "Sound Of Silver")
Sandy - Caribou (From the Album "Andorra")
Maybe Lately - Miracle Fortress (From the Album "Five Roses")
No Cars Go - Arcade Fire (From the Album "Neon Bible")
Charmer - Kings of Leon (From the Album "Because of the Times")
TBTF - Broken Social Scene Presents: Kevin Drew (From the Album "Spirit If..")
Once Upon a Time - Air (From the Album "Pocket Symphony")

These aren't necessarily the best songs from their respective albums, but some stuff that I thought went well together, as well as a track that I put in there by mistake, but still sounds good I think. I'll do a part 2, and maybe a dance party set as well.

Someday soon, We'll all be heros

Thanks for all your faith in me folks, my small but dedicated readership has spoken out about the blog being sent to pasture. It's alright, something else will be along soon to help you get through your day. I hope everyone had a great holiday season, I know I did. Getting together with friends and family is a lot of fun, and seeing the faces of your loved ones when they see what you got them.

With the end of the year coming, stay tuned for a top songs/albums/movies/books for 2007. I will be doing a DJ mix set of my favourite tracks, as well as a list of great reading and viewing from the past year. Have a great holiday.

Lifebystereo is dead

Lifebystereo is sadly in it's dying days. I'm refocusing, and putting my portfolio directly at the lifebystereo.com URL. I'll leave the archive up, if for some reason you want to read the old posts, but lifebystereo as you know it now will be no more after the new year. From now until then, I'll be posting rather frequently until I think of a new blog.

Ignore the cheesy visuals and listen to the beat, it's amazing.

Trick yr. kicks.

Merry Christmas.

Christmas!

Christmas is coming very soon, and I think it's best to get your shopping done early. If you are like me, you enjoy giving much more than receiving. You love the way their face lights up orgasmically as they open your gift. Aswell, You like your gifts to be very person. No gift cards from you, you really give gifts inspired by love. When you give someone a gift that has your person "touch", you know that they are never going to forget. That's why, I as an amateur blogger, suggest you "splurge" for the gift that just keeps on coming.

SPERMCUBE

This is an amazing idea for a gift that would redefine the face of art and economics this christmas. Hard to shop for people in your life? What about people like your boss or your ex-wife's boss? As a business man, I think my boss would really appreciate Spermcube shares as a gift. With just a 5 euro investment, you could give them an investment that could potentially worth thousands! It's the give gift that keeps on coming.

Bonnaventure James:

If anyone hasn't heard this yet, and you like glitchy electronic shenanigans, check out an EP that I put together last summer. It's named EP for Denton, but that was just so I could get all the songs in the same folder in iTunes. Originally titled "Injury Theatre EP" it's a bunch of old songs, and some new ones are sure to follow. Here are the songs, 320 kbps mp3 files. Available for six more days.

Don't go back to work

If you didn't know, the screenwriters are on strike! I honestly think they shouldn't go back to work. Seriously.

Let me put it this way: if Hollywood is fucking you, fuck it back. Don't do something lame like go on strike, just quit. Hollywood is garbage, and I'm sure a lot of writers know it too, a lot of talent is wasted everyday. Shows like Arrested Development get canceled while shit like American Idol and the droves of other garbage is getting more and more attention. I know I'm biased, let me just cut to the point.

Quit, just quit. I suggest most writers just quit and get in to a new line of work, you suck. The Tonight Show writers especially. The bulk of you who have talent, find someone who knows how to use a computer, and start something new. Do you have any idea how much money is to be made on the internet? YouTube is a testament that people WILL sit in front of a computer and consume like they do with a television.

MC hammer the musical laughing stock raised a million dollars for his new website DANCEJAM, don't you think talented writers could do a little better? If I had a million dollars, I would call Andy Samberg, Steve Carell (along with a few others who write for the Office), Stephen Colbert and Conan O'Brien. Whomever wanted in could be a part of my web 2.0 "television" station.

Ok, so the idea isn't perfect, but I think that the smarter writers really need to kick this Hollywood habit, and we can easily crush those studio giants who have a monopoly on mindless entertainment.

I want to move to Montreal

One of the main reasons I would love to live in Montreal is to hopefully, one day see Godspeed You! Black Emperor play. Tonight on LateNightTales I am featuring the album "Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven".

NBC Vs. The World

I'm doing some random internet roaming and was linked to THIS. Apparently NBC exec Jeff Zucker is blaming Apple and YouTube for ruining everything from his network, to the corn industry. This is how I look at it:

Zucker probably sees himself in a David Vs. Goliath situation, where David will smite the terrible content stealers and vanquish the enemy. What he apparently doesn't realize is that he isn't David. YouTube and the iPod are our stone to the forehead of the Goliath mega-media outlets of this common age. We're winning!

The old farts and luddite CEOs aren't really seeing the big picture here. In the same way that the movie industry showed losses when the television first got on the scene, media outlets are seeing losses now that the internet has kicked in to high-gear. So did movies die because the government wouldn't ban the sale of televisions?

No, of course not, that's the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Movies actually got better, and sales went up when studios began making movies in widescreen, and adapting their business models to compete with television. It's not a biblical fist fight, it's economics. Use the internet to distribute your content and you will make more money than you ever have before.

I admit that at 21 years old, I am getting past my techno-prime. It's sad but there is stuff out there that I cannot even fathom. Justin.Tv is a pretty good example of why people would turn off their TVs, ignore shows that are going to get cancelled in 3 weeks, and veg out to something a little more interesting.

31st

Yes, I know I don't put much effort in to blogging anymore, and I am mostly talking to myself when I apologize for this lack of blogging. However, Halloween is here, and there is no shortage of fun things to talk about.

They thought this guy was really dead, probably had some really good make up on I am sure.
This Book, and it's cartoon adaptation has had a huge impact on my halloween life since I was really young.
I'm also heading off to see Bright Eyes, The Square Waves, and Modest Mouse. Oh what a few days it will be! I have been waiting for this for such a long time, and it's finally here.

This is what I am dressing up as:

Tonight's Late Night Tales

You're a Woman, I'm a Machine - Death From Above 1979

I hope I'm not the only one I know who has rocked out to this album several times in their life. I know I have done it atleast seven times, while alone, at parties, at a concert, or cruising in a car. It's sexy, it's noisy, it's Canadian. More cliches? No? Ok..... We also heard from the 2002 Ep, Heads Up (on real vinyl!) More links? OK!:

MSTR KRFT - The Looks
Get Lucky (MSTRKRFT Remix) 3:50 New Young Pony Club
Rock Steady (Mstrkrft Edition) 5:07 All Saints
Kennedy Killed The Hat (MSTRKRFT Remix) 2:51 Buck 65
D.A.N.C.E. (MSTRKRFT RMX) 4:37Justice

Isn't it all so much fun? I'm also cross posting this to a linky funtime blog called "MondayNitght-TuesdayMorning".
I'll be sure to put up a feed.

Of ThanksGivings...

Tomorrow morning, at 2 am, I will begin a new journey in radio DJing. Please tune in to CKXU 88.3 FM in Lethbridge, or online at CKXU.com for a new show called "LateNightTales". Ok, I stole the name from the very good compilation series, but the idea is fairly original.

The new show is really late, but it explores the entirety of an album. This week I am starting with "Deloused in the Comatorium" by the Mars Volta. I have two hours, but since I am the last show of the evening, I may go longer or shorter. Please turn on, tune in, and drop out, it should be fun.

Band Wagon Jumper

I know it's hurtful to stomp on other people in light of terrible trauma, it makes people cry and such...

But I just have to be frank. Britney Spears is nothing but a cheap whore. There, I said it! I'm so frank because I think that even though she may not be having sex for money (yet) she is in the line of work where you become someone else's property. If she had any sense in her bald head, she wouldn't have done the MTV VMAs. It was a terrible decision to go out there, do a piss poor job of lip syncing, and choreography. It's like she has a pimp, and she needs the money to pay him off and support her coke habit.

I'm not accusing Britney of having a coke habit, but I am going to say that everything bad that has happened to her, is her own damn fault. If I get drunk and party all night, and miss my classes and fail university, it's my problem, no one else's. How can someone like the above video blogger think that she is some saint who has been ruined by the media? She chose to do all those things on her free will, she chose to skip the panties while partying with Paris, and sadly, she apparently chose to do the MTV awards.

My advice? Get help! If you're record company is treating you like shit, which is causing you to lash out in childish ways, then use your millions to get yourself out. Take your children to where they can be cared for, and get yourself some psychiatric help. Just because their father is a talentless hideous chud of a fuckup, doesn't mean your children should suffer, they didn't ask to be born. So before I start sounding like Perez Hilton, I will end this rant here and never speak of Britney again.

What I am Listening To, and Why

I just picked up three new CDs which are making me happy. Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam, Caribou - Andorra, MIA - Kala. Each disc brings something really weird, and something super catchy to my stereo, and I must say I am happy to be bobbing my head, rather than sulking this time of year. I know I have been a little depressed in the past with the start of the fall season. I haven't had a chance to listen to them all start to end, but the first tracks just compel me to do good things.

Let's all hope for the best.

That's Panda Bear on the left, two groundbreaking albums in one year? That's what happens when you move to Portugal.

For the Pioneers of the Internet

It's conceited and elitist to call myself a "Pioneer" in the grand scheme of the Internet until now, but on a historical time line this generation is pretty much the first crop of Internet users. We look 2000 year back and see Rome and Greece as being early civilization, in 2000 more years people could could look back on us with similar interest. Until then, here is a little look back at things as they were.

The young Internet filled with users of every background, picking up mice and tilling the virgin soil of the world wide web. It was wild, ugly and mostly pointless, but it was the beginning, and I like what has come since. This is a nice little essay on just that. UPDATE: Here is a good example of early web design that is still online, I was looking for my crappy homepages, but it looks like they may be lost forever. My friend Jason had some good content for us nerds who played too much Nintendo 64.

A few more things that happened this summer...

Apparently I really like taking pictures of fireworks. These ones were taken with a slower ISO so I had to compensate with a slower shutter speed, this made some very cool pictures. Please click the link and check out the rest.

Feelin' lower than the TSX

I woke to find the TSX down 600 points, and was worried that I wouldn't have anything good to report when someone asked "What were you doing when the stock market crashed?". I did however eat Fruity Cheerios, which is not he abomination that I originally expected. If my grandkids ask, I'll just mention the really good Square Waves/The Void/Jasmine Jake show at the Slice tonight.

I also picked up the new Square Waves miniCD, which I can't listen to in my laptop because it is too small. I'm sure I'll use technology to get around this problem.
Function, Not Fashion or Die
I took this picture the other night and I'm rather proud of it.

Brave New World and Daft Punk

I went to see Daft Punk play in Seattle on the 29th of July and I am only now going to blog about it. It's sad, calling myself a "blogger" and never blogging. A little before, and into the trip there, I read Aldous Huxley's "Brave New World" and I wanted to talk about the two of them side by side.

In the book, entertainment is heightened to the next logical level: adding the other senses in to a movie. Just as sound was added in the early part of the century, and then colour, taste, smell and touch is added in A.F 632. This somehow reminds me of the Daft Punk concert experience.

See for yourself:

The show was out of control, and I think everyone was really impressed. The only complaint I had was that it was getting a little hot, and an air gust here and there was barely cutting it. I would love to see air vents and smells added to things like concerts. Imagine: Patchouli drifting through the air, during a slow portion and then crash! a swirling vortex of citrus from the stage during a more explosive portion.

This however may not be enough for the average person who is suffering from work day woes. Like in the book, I am in favour of a drug like "Soma", however I do not think it should be a mandatory dosage. If we could combine some of the effects of Marijuana, LSD and morphine we could create a audience member that has it's senses artificially heightened.

Drugs tend to have negative impacts on the human body, so most drugs in their current form aren't a feasible option, they are however used illegally and experiments like this take place to this day.

I hope that the makes up for taking so long to post something. If you don't want to read the whole thing just check out this mathematical equation: Daft Punk + Seattle + Myself = Awesome/(good times)+Robots+(the Future)

Lifebystereo is still a radio show

It may not be forever, but this next mp3 DJ set may feel like it. This is pretty noisy and shouldn't be consumed by the intolerant or the faint of heart.

Animal Collective - People
Black Dice - Big Drop
Explosions in the Sky - The Birth and Death of the Day
The Flaming Lips - Approaching Pavonis Mons By Balloon (Utopia Planitia)
Bonnaventure James - Robots+Sunshine

The Black Dice song is extremely long and noisy, so please take the necessary precautions. Download it here for 6 days

I'm sorry

I haven't been blogging lately, hell, I missed out on blogging about the Daft Punk show. I will however make it up to everyone who accidentally visits this blog looking for goat sex and other porn.
