Saturday, November 10, 2007Don't go back to workIf you didn't know, the screenwriters are on strike! I honestly think they shouldn't go back to work. Seriously. Let me put it this way: if Hollywood is fucking you, fuck it back. Don't do something lame like go on strike, just quit. Hollywood is garbage, and I'm sure a lot of writers know it too, a lot of talent is wasted everyday. Shows like Arrested Development get canceled while shit like American Idol and the droves of other garbage is getting more and more attention. I know I'm biased, let me just cut to the point. Quit, just quit. I suggest most writers just quit and get in to a new line of work, you suck. The Tonight Show writers especially. The bulk of you who have talent, find someone who knows how to use a computer, and start something new. Do you have any idea how much money is to be made on the internet? YouTube is a testament that people WILL sit in front of a computer and consume like they do with a television. MC hammer the musical laughing stock raised a million dollars for his new website DANCEJAM, don't you think talented writers could do a little better? If I had a million dollars, I would call Andy Samberg, Steve Carell (along with a few others who write for the Office), Stephen Colbert and Conan O'Brien. Whomever wanted in could be a part of my web 2.0 "television" station. Ok, so the idea isn't perfect, but I think that the smarter writers really need to kick this Hollywood habit, and we can easily crush those studio giants who have a monopoly on mindless entertainment. Labels: internet, rant, technology Wednesday, October 31, 2007NBC Vs. The WorldI'm doing some random internet roaming and was linked to THIS. Apparently NBC exec Jeff Zucker is blaming Apple and YouTube for ruining everything from his network, to the corn industry. This is how I look at it: Zucker probably sees himself in a David Vs. Goliath situation, where David will smite the terrible content stealers and vanquish the enemy. What he apparently doesn't realize is that he isn't David. YouTube and the iPod are our stone to the forehead of the Goliath mega-media outlets of this common age. We're winning! The old farts and luddite CEOs aren't really seeing the big picture here. In the same way that the movie industry showed losses when the television first got on the scene, media outlets are seeing losses now that the internet has kicked in to high-gear. So did movies die because the government wouldn't ban the sale of televisions? No, of course not, that's the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Movies actually got better, and sales went up when studios began making movies in widescreen, and adapting their business models to compete with television. It's not a biblical fist fight, it's economics. Use the internet to distribute your content and you will make more money than you ever have before. I admit that at 21 years old, I am getting past my techno-prime. It's sad but there is stuff out there that I cannot even fathom. Justin.Tv is a pretty good example of why people would turn off their TVs, ignore shows that are going to get cancelled in 3 weeks, and veg out to something a little more interesting. Labels: internet, philosophy, rant Thursday, September 06, 2007For the Pioneers of the InternetIt's conceited and elitist to call myself a "Pioneer" in the grand scheme of the Internet until now, but on a historical time line this generation is pretty much the first crop of Internet users. We look 2000 year back and see Rome and Greece as being early civilization, in 2000 more years people could could look back on us with similar interest. Until then, here is a little look back at things as they were. The young Internet filled with users of every background, picking up mice and tilling the virgin soil of the world wide web. It was wild, ugly and mostly pointless, but it was the beginning, and I like what has come since. This is a nice little essay on just that. UPDATE: Here is a good example of early web design that is still online, I was looking for my crappy homepages, but it looks like they may be lost forever. My friend Jason had some good content for us nerds who played too much Nintendo 64. Labels: internet, philosophy Thursday, June 28, 2007Flying Tends to SuckI'm not super keen on flying. I'm not sure if it's all the strangers that get to invade all of your personal space, the feeling of accelerating faster than any human generation in the past, or the fact that you are jam packed with 100 other people who smell, and talk loudly. I'm usually excited until I get to security and get my testicles juggled by some man/large woman. I'd much rather take a ship... like a pirate ship.... Oh yeah.... Anywho, check out this little customer complaint that I found amusing. I would like to thank Digg.com for entertaining me so much Labels: internet Sunday, May 20, 2007Function over FashionI just stumbled upon this webcomic via "ProjectWonderful", and I think it is really good. Swell art, funny content, much better than Disney's "Tarzan". "Minus." Check it out, it's really good. I hope to see many updates. However, this could lead to an interesting spin to our assignment. Could we do an impromptu funeral for the service? I think that would be so cutting edge, BoingBoing worthy for sure. Lucky for me, this isn't the end of the world if YouTube goes away forever, I'm sure something just a huge comes a long. I do however feel slightly bad for all the folks who could be traumatized by the end of YouTube. Please don't panic, I doubt this is a permanent thing, but it does seem like it could be a problem for me (even in the short term). EDIT: It's 2 am and YouTube is back. I had a feeling this would not be permanent, but the impending doom and "I told you so"'s was so ominous I couldn't help but blow it out of proportion. Clearly I'm an idiot, but let's still ponder what would happen if YouTube disappear. Labels: internet, life, news, philosophy Sunday, April 01, 2007New MusicI wanted to point everyone HERE to check out the first ever GleetchLab compilation. The creator of the software I use for a portion of my music put this together and it sounds really good. Very noisy and experimental, you should check it out if those two words get you interested. It's free, and it's rather hard to beat that price. I also put up a new song on my MySpace that I should be performing on April 20th at the TnG. http://www.myspace.com/thedeluxebelgium Labels: funk, internet, lethbridge, music, news Saturday, March 24, 2007My House, My HouseI have a ticket for Daft Punk in Seattle on July 29th, and I am freaking pumped! A road trip! I'm really excited, to commemorate this joyus occasion, here is a run down of the disco samples that were used in a few Daft Punk songs over the years. My favourite is "Robot Rock".Palms Out Sounds: Samples Wednesday (Daft Punk edition) Labels: funk, internet, music, road trip Thursday, February 08, 2007Fun For The Whole FamilyFun for the whole damned family! May I present: Writers of Sociologic Theory, ACTION FIGURES! these are great! It makes me think about how I used to play with Action Figures as a child while watching the television show. Now I can read scholarly text, and play with the action figure at the same time! Now I really want a Hunter S. Thompson and Candy Apple Red convertible, with optional suitcase filled with two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. P.s This is my 400th post on Lifebystereo.com! Whoo Whoo Labels: funk, internet, life, movies, philosophy Sunday, January 28, 2007Everything is fineI put up some really cool pictures from a road trip that I took to the mountains of B.C. I shot them with a Fujica 35mm on Ilford B&W film. Then I scanned the negatives, and the rest is history. I have a lot of stuff to do for various classes, so blogging is taking a back seat, even though blogging IS one of my assignments... I guess I will never become a "pro" blogger. On a much happier note, I have been in an excellent mood since Thursday and I am listening to a leaked copy of the new Arcade Fire album. I suggest buying it to everyone even if they have a leaked copy. My opinion is to give this band as much money as possible, so we can expect a few more solid albums. Labels: internet, life, music, photography Wednesday, January 17, 2007It's been awhileI am blogging over at wordpress these days, as I have a blogging class that the prof prefers to be done using wordpress. It's a little hard because I can't just type and whatever, I have to actually convey a message. I do very little of conveying anything on this blog, and I apologize to all of you. I've been updating my flickr a lot, so I think I will be just posting random artzy things here, and leaving in depth word play to other blogs. Keep it real guys, keep it real. Labels: emo, internet, life, philosophy Wednesday, December 20, 2006Enjoy the SilenceLast night the Slice in Lethbridge was bumping with some sick kareoke action. I must say that Tuesday nights at that establishment, are among the best in the city. We all like to so much in fact that we are throwing a Valentine's Day dance there. The date and bands are tentative, but I assure you it will be a very good time. Stay tuned for more details! Is it wierd to anyone else that TIME is calling "You" the person of the year? I think it's weird, but it is about damn time. You really make the internet what it is. Way to go! I love you. Labels: funk, internet, kareoke, lethbridge, music |
