Saturday, September 22, 2007Eat Or Be EatenThis Is Cute. Thursday, July 12, 2007I Hate RodeoI don't "Hate" rodeo as much as I don't care for it. What I hate is the attitude that you must abuse animals for fun. I do however enjoy watching people getting their asses kicked by said animals. Nature is great! Right now I am kicking it in Calgary waiting for a ride down to Stampede for some "Hoot n' Hollerin'" fun, and possibly alcohol. Some popular country band will be playing Nashville North, which is where we are going to hang out. This will be reason enough for the alcohol. Joey is back, and it is her birthday today, so off to the Stampede we must go! It's great having her back as I have never had so much fun sitting around in Airdrie. We're heading back to Lethbridge tomorrow for my own birthday, which should be a good time. Many regards my good friends, it's hot, so I will need your prayers. Labels: adventure, friendship, life, road trip, summer Tuesday, July 03, 2007Zen and Bicycle RepairSo I finally got my bicycle back from a friend who had it due to a series of strange events, but I must say that I am thrilled. My original bike was stolen and almost completely trashed due to being ridden in some sub-zero temperatures, and much harder than any Sport-Chek bike should be. I used to race BMX, so I'm pretty good at riding in a reckless manner, and I am sure that lead to the death of the bike. However the thief now has a broken bike. I however decided to try and balance some karma by stealing a bike from the university that had been tagged as "In violation of bicycle parking", and was long abandoned. I later found out the bicycle belonged to a friend of mine, and she gladly allowed me to steal it. Here is a picture of the bicycle in all it's glory. ![]() Ok, I know it's a girl's bike, but I don't care, it was free! I took off the front and rear fenders, as well as the back brake. The back brake was broken, and the fenders were rubbing. As well, it looks much cleaner now. So I am going to do some upgrades to make this the coolest thing ever: The reason for the question mark is the fact that riding a fixed gear bicycle can be extremely dangerous if not taken seriously. However, it is apparently very rewarding once you can get the hang of it. It will also let me remove the extremely antique gear shifter, and horrendously rusted gears. Think I can do it? I'm not too sure either. I have however found this resource online, and it seems I may just need to go wheel shopping. "How To Build A Fixed Gear Bicycle" Let's hope I don't die. Labels: adventure, holidays, lethbridge, life, summer Thursday, May 17, 2007Horses are still a reasonable mode of transportationI was driving home from work, and I saw three people on horses casually strolling down the street. It's no big deal, they paid no harm to myself or my vehicle. All is well, if I can skateboard where I please, then they can horse it all they like. I don't mind it, as long as the horses behave in a civil manner, horses should be allowed where they please. Someone mentioned to me that there is a current law in Calgary Alberta which forbids a bar from denying your horse a place to sleep. Actually, according to this (scroll down to Calgary) website, it's just rails for tying up your horse. I guess it's difficult to say, anecdotes are the internet of the past. I'm thinking that should be on a t-shirt. I went for a nice skateboard down to the local convenience store for a slupree and I am extremely refreshed now. It's getting rather sticky and muggy in my house, and some physical activity is great. I walk around a lot at work, but it's just not the same since it's usually just in mundane circles. Hurrah for participaction! The best part about the skate has to be listening to "Donuts" by JDilla, very cool instrumental hip-hop production. It's too bad we don't have him around anymore, I just fully realized what he had to offer us. I can see this being a very hip-hop oriented summer. Best Regards folks, Jaronw Labels: lethbridge, life, music Wednesday, April 11, 2007I may just have to shit dice
However, this could lead to an interesting spin to our assignment. Could we do an impromptu funeral for the service? I think that would be so cutting edge, BoingBoing worthy for sure. Lucky for me, this isn't the end of the world if YouTube goes away forever, I'm sure something just a huge comes a long. I do however feel slightly bad for all the folks who could be traumatized by the end of YouTube. Please don't panic, I doubt this is a permanent thing, but it does seem like it could be a problem for me (even in the short term). EDIT: It's 2 am and YouTube is back. I had a feeling this would not be permanent, but the impending doom and "I told you so"'s was so ominous I couldn't help but blow it out of proportion. Clearly I'm an idiot, but let's still ponder what would happen if YouTube disappear. Awesome stuff, please keep reading, and I hope that if you are looking for something, you find it. Labels: life Friday, March 09, 2007Chicken Burrito PizzaPossibly the true name of this is a Chimichanga, but who cares? Here is a recipe for an awesome pizza I invented! Ingredients: This is a very rough list of ingredients, because the size of the pizza depends on how much of everything you use. Also, if you want to use real chicken, I guess you can You savage. So take your crust out of the package, or spread it out in the pan and put down a layer of the beans. Then, drizzle some salsa over the beans. This will prevent your crust getting all soggy from the salsa. Next, add the chicken and the cheese in whatever order you prefer. I like having my toppings locked in, some like them on top. You choose. Finally, grate that cheese on the top, and heat it up. I used a Safeway crust, and cooked it at about 400F for about 8 minutes. That got it hot enough and melted the cheese. If you use real chicken, this will change the cooking time, and if you add more toppings, then it will change it in a similar fashion. The pizza tasted great, you should try it as well! Labels: drunk, life, news, photography, politics Thursday, February 08, 2007Fun For The Whole FamilyFun for the whole damned family! May I present: Writers of Sociologic Theory, ACTION FIGURES! these are great! It makes me think about how I used to play with Action Figures as a child while watching the television show. Now I can read scholarly text, and play with the action figure at the same time! Now I really want a Hunter S. Thompson and Candy Apple Red convertible, with optional suitcase filled with two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. P.s This is my 400th post on Lifebystereo.com! Whoo Whoo Labels: funk, internet, life, movies, philosophy Sunday, January 28, 2007Everything is fineI put up some really cool pictures from a road trip that I took to the mountains of B.C. I shot them with a Fujica 35mm on Ilford B&W film. Then I scanned the negatives, and the rest is history. I have a lot of stuff to do for various classes, so blogging is taking a back seat, even though blogging IS one of my assignments... I guess I will never become a "pro" blogger. On a much happier note, I have been in an excellent mood since Thursday and I am listening to a leaked copy of the new Arcade Fire album. I suggest buying it to everyone even if they have a leaked copy. My opinion is to give this band as much money as possible, so we can expect a few more solid albums. Labels: internet, life, music, photography Wednesday, January 17, 2007It's been awhileI am blogging over at wordpress these days, as I have a blogging class that the prof prefers to be done using wordpress. It's a little hard because I can't just type and whatever, I have to actually convey a message. I do very little of conveying anything on this blog, and I apologize to all of you. I've been updating my flickr a lot, so I think I will be just posting random artzy things here, and leaving in depth word play to other blogs. Keep it real guys, keep it real. Labels: emo, internet, life, philosophy Tuesday, January 09, 2007License to IllI've been rather sick lately, making the first few days of school rather hard. It's fine though, it's given me a chance to experiment with cough and cold medicines. Speaking of experimenting, did you guys see the move Apple made? The iPhone? WOW. Internet, Mp3 player, PDA, it's all there! I'm not going to buy one due to the extreme price, and the fact that I JUST bought a new phone. However, I think the next generation of iPhone will have a few nicer features, and I will be in a better income bracket. The real coolness that I may get tricked in to buying is the AppleTV. Did anyone else see it? Streaming music and movies from your computer up in to your TV. Pretty radical in my opinion, I don't think I can afford it, or the type of TV that be best suited for such a device. Also, since I think it only really plays content encoded in specific ways, very Apple ways, if you catch my drift. I think I would prefer something that excels at streaming anytype of video I want. I guess you cannot always get what you want. Apple You can read my blog about "The Sociology of Mass Communication" at blood*like*atlantic. Should be a fun class. Labels: life, news, review, school Friday, January 05, 2007Even though it wasn't that great then...I'm on a CBC radio binge these days. Not even the hip music shows like "Brave New Waves" or whatever like that. I just really like hearing people talk about stuff. Most interesting is the dearly departed Lister Sinclair who did that show "GO!" up until 1999. His voice is entrancing and entertaining, and his shows are rarely less than informative. While driving to work one morning I caught "Masterpieces of Disco", a comprehensive look at Disco music as a rich art form rather than passing fad. I never thought an old white man could teach me so much about something so soulful, it really changed the way I listen to the CBC. Also, on some show I didn't catch the name of, people were calling in asking about the value of various items they had in their homes. It reminded me of the antiques roadshow, am I the only one who LOVES the antiques roadshow? Not only does the voice of most Brits delight me to no end, but finding out how much things are worth is awesome. Thank you CBC. Tuesday, January 02, 2007The LoveI am listening to a piece on the CBC about the French, and their love of love. It's strange thinking about the cultures out there that put a lot less stock in monogamy, and abstinence before marriage. It's not that I suggest doing these things, I don't think I am in any position to condone anything, especially anything sexual. However, it really got me thinking about living life passionately. Is it the conditions that we live in that cause us to supress our feelings of desire? Is it the religious revival of our land that is killing our lust for life? Is it so wrong to want to seize what makes us passionate? A friend wrote me a letter about how he had figured out why he was always so happy and successful. He told me that he always had a positive outlook on life, regardless of how shitty his life was, he just looked forward as if there was nothing in his way. This same friend has no problems with people seeing him naked, no problems with making love, and no problems with making a complete ass of himself for other's amusement (he is a professional clown and magician). He does what he loves, and loves what he does. Why should that be different than everyone else? Again, I'm not saying sleep with everyone you know. However, I would like everyone who reads this to take a moment each day, and just do something that you enjoy. Labels: emo, life, philosophy |
