Best of 2007, or Bo2007

A few things that were good for 2007: Beowulf was mega intense and entertained mindlessly. Darjeeling Limited was another warm hearted quiet epic from Wes Anderson, the movie spiritually changed by Owen Wilson's attempted suicide. Simpson's movie was good enough for a long time fan, could have been better, but a worthy effort. Across the Universe made me fall in love with the Beatles again, still could have been better, but great anyhow. Concerts: LCD Soundsystem, Daft Punk, Girl Talk, MSTRKRFT, Broken Social Scene, Modest Mouse, Bright Eyes, Square Waves, Bonnaventure James and the Deluxe Belgium. It was all so much fun, let's all work together for a wonderous 2008.

A couple of my favourite songs from 2007:

Intro - RJD2 (From the Album "The Third Hand")
Chores - Animal Collective (From the Album "Strawberry Jam")
Someone Great - LCD Soundsystem (From the Album "Sound Of Silver")
Sandy - Caribou (From the Album "Andorra")
Maybe Lately - Miracle Fortress (From the Album "Five Roses")
No Cars Go - Arcade Fire (From the Album "Neon Bible")
Charmer - Kings of Leon (From the Album "Because of the Times")
TBTF - Broken Social Scene Presents: Kevin Drew (From the Album "Spirit If..")
Once Upon a Time - Air (From the Album "Pocket Symphony")

These aren't necessarily the best songs from their respective albums, but some stuff that I thought went well together, as well as a track that I put in there by mistake, but still sounds good I think. I'll do a part 2, and maybe a dance party set as well.
For one week only! One File Only! iPod and giant Archos media player compatible!!!

Everybody's working for the weekend

Everyone I know is working their literal and figurative balls off, and I am amongst them. The only people I know who aren't working harder this summer, are people who already have full-time jobs. They just work all day and no one gives them the credit they deserve.

I finally got in to some white wine today, thanks to Martine. She bought a bottle of "Yard Dog" of the white variety, after liking the red type so much. The bottle has a picture of a small dog in a cone collar on it, and is quite tasty. We also watched "Happiness" together, and I must say that I am still impressed.

I originally saw it super late at night on Showcase, and was originally blown away by how creepy the subject matter was. However, I slowly became enthralled by the awkward camera shots, and intensely dark humor. "Welcome To The Dollhouse" was really good too, but I can relate to the characters in "Happiness" a little bit better. I guess that comes off as pretty creepy, if you've seen the movie, you will know that most of the characters aren't model citizens. I do think that all the characters exhibit an attribute or two that we can all relate to. Be it, loneliness, guilt, sexual curiosity, and so on and so forth.

So that is my wine fueled post for tonight. Godspeed!

The Real Sandwiches

The last post was about a sandwich when I wrote the title. That darned commercial came on and distracted me. It was a great sandwich with many interesting ingredients. It was completely vegetarian, although not vegan. Here is a video I made for school. I made everything except the first monologue, which is from the movie "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas".

It's a little weird, but it is now a part of something I am going to be calling "Young and Hungry".

Sandwiches

Blogging regularly is pretty fun. Someday I hope to become a masterful and prolific blogger, with thousands of readers. That will no doubt never happen, unless I figure out a specific topic to write about. It'd be nice if a company would send me CDs, DVDs or video games for free, then I would be obligated to blog. How perfect would that be?

Maybe I should do a weekly thing in which I post about random things I see/hear/read, and rip on it. Maybe I won't rip on it as a rule... but I will be stern with my appraisals. Let's try one now:

Delta Farce!
What an idea for a film; rednecks, war and Larry the Cable Guy. I'm sure there is a plot, or something similar, but from the TV spot I see this as an updated "In the Army Now". Does anyone else remember that film? One of Pauly Shore's first movies, which kicked off a lengthy and prolific career. Ok, that was a bit low, I think Pauly Shore is actually semi-entertaining, especially now that he is able to make fun of himself. I however don't think, that with the downfall of studio cinema since the 1970, this "new" movie will be worth a dime. I could be being critical, but let's look at a graph here.

Sadly, the "Time Vs. Quality of Movie" graph shows us why this movie might statistically suck. Factor in that rednecks (in my opinion) are a lot more tragic than they are hilarious, you get an equation for box office poison. Ok, Box Office poison is a very harsh term, this movie may do really good in the box office, but again, that might be a very sad look at our society. This movie is the equivalent of a flaming bag of shit on my door step. I could be an asshole and rag on Larry the Cable guy, but that won't make the movie any better. What if the movie is actually good? Then I will look like an asshole. Maybe this is why I don't have a blog with loyal readers, my writing is without edge. Anyways, someone should watch it and tell me if it is passable.

Thanks to IMDB for all the research material.

Fun For The Whole Family

Fun for the whole damned family! May I present: Writers of Sociologic Theory, ACTION FIGURES! these are great! It makes me think about how I used to play with Action Figures as a child while watching the television show. Now I can read scholarly text, and play with the action figure at the same time!

Now I really want a Hunter S. Thompson and Candy Apple Red convertible, with optional suitcase filled with two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.
Thanks to YouTube Addict for the good tip.

Have a Nice Fright

Since I am in the blogging mood, I would like to review a movie I recently saw.

The movie is called "The Pursuit of Happyness" and stars Will Smith and his young son, who's name I am too lazy look up. The movie features various instances of a young african-american man who is continually screwed by the world. Luckily for him, he never gives up, and never turns to substance abuse. Due to his iron-clad determination, he is able to get a job as a stock broker, even though he had no post secondary education. Sounds great right? Feel good hit of the year?

It was, and I enjoy every single minute of the movie to vary degrees, bored to teary eyed. Nothing all that special about the movie, this is just a Will Smith movie remember. The end however, ruined the entire film for me. I was so shocked by the tenacity of who ever OK'd the move, that I am still scratching my head. The end of the movie breaks down like this.

Boss Dude: Son, you got the job!
W. Smith: Wow, thank you sir
Boss Dude: See you Monday champ
W. Smith narration as he runs out of the building: I call this moment in my life happiness
[Cheesy scene of Will and his son walking around enjoying "easier times" then fade to black]
White text on a black background: Will Smith went on to start his own firm, then sold a part of it for millions of dollars. [Translation: Cash some fat cheques from whitey and sell out, or stay poor as fuck.]

I'll will give it to the film maker, I am glad to hear that this fellow is slick with cash 24/7. However, are there no greater lessons to be learned? Did he just simply make millions? Is the story completely over now? How about he gave some of that money to some under privledged African American students to go to college? No? Oh, all he did was make fat cash. That's how to get happy, there is no other way.
