Tuesday, September 11, 2007What I am Listening To, and WhyI just picked up three new CDs which are making me happy. Animal Collective - Strawberry Jam, Caribou - Andorra, MIA - Kala. Each disc brings something really weird, and something super catchy to my stereo, and I must say I am happy to be bobbing my head, rather than sulking this time of year. I know I have been a little depressed in the past with the start of the fall season. I haven't had a chance to listen to them all start to end, but the first tracks just compel me to do good things. Let's all hope for the best. Sunday, May 20, 2007Function over FashionI just stumbled upon this webcomic via "ProjectWonderful", and I think it is really good. Swell art, funny content, much better than Disney's "Tarzan". "Minus." Check it out, it's really good. I hope to see many updates. However, this could lead to an interesting spin to our assignment. Could we do an impromptu funeral for the service? I think that would be so cutting edge, BoingBoing worthy for sure. Lucky for me, this isn't the end of the world if YouTube goes away forever, I'm sure something just a huge comes a long. I do however feel slightly bad for all the folks who could be traumatized by the end of YouTube. Please don't panic, I doubt this is a permanent thing, but it does seem like it could be a problem for me (even in the short term). EDIT: It's 2 am and YouTube is back. I had a feeling this would not be permanent, but the impending doom and "I told you so"'s was so ominous I couldn't help but blow it out of proportion. Clearly I'm an idiot, but let's still ponder what would happen if YouTube disappear. Labels: internet, life, news, philosophy Sunday, April 01, 2007New MusicI wanted to point everyone HERE to check out the first ever GleetchLab compilation. The creator of the software I use for a portion of my music put this together and it sounds really good. Very noisy and experimental, you should check it out if those two words get you interested. It's free, and it's rather hard to beat that price. I also put up a new song on my MySpace that I should be performing on April 20th at the TnG. http://www.myspace.com/thedeluxebelgium Labels: funk, internet, lethbridge, music, news Thursday, February 15, 2007Instead of Blogging I...I like to make art things, and appreciate them. Thus is the start of a semester I guess, fast and furious. What I am really get excited for in the next weeks is "These Proportions are Epic" featuring Michael Bernard Fitzgerald. He is travelling from Lethbridge, Calgary and Edmonton, so if you are in one of those cities, you should check it out. It's fine though, it's given me a chance to experiment with cough and cold medicines. Speaking of experimenting, did you guys see the move Apple made? The iPhone? WOW. Internet, Mp3 player, PDA, it's all there! I'm not going to buy one due to the extreme price, and the fact that I JUST bought a new phone. However, I think the next generation of iPhone will have a few nicer features, and I will be in a better income bracket. The real coolness that I may get tricked in to buying is the AppleTV. Did anyone else see it? Streaming music and movies from your computer up in to your TV. Pretty radical in my opinion, I don't think I can afford it, or the type of TV that be best suited for such a device. Also, since I think it only really plays content encoded in specific ways, very Apple ways, if you catch my drift. I think I would prefer something that excels at streaming anytype of video I want. I guess you cannot always get what you want. Apple You can read my blog about "The Sociology of Mass Communication" at blood*like*atlantic. Should be a fun class. Labels: life, news, review, school Saturday, December 30, 2006Killing in the name of...?So the former president of Iraq, Saddam Husssein has been hung after being found guilty of killing over a hundred of his own people. However, the current president of a another sovereign nation, who's actions are responsible for even more deaths, still lives and expects no trial. Ok, that was sensationalistic, but it's really upsetting when said president can say something as evil as "[The execution is an] important milestone on Iraq's course to becoming a democracy" [Source]. How is the trial and murder of a person a "Milestone" in democracy? Could Saddam have simply lived in confinement for the rest of his life, and democracy still succeeded? Why are Islamic militants in Africa allowed to rule as tyrants with out even a word about "Democracy" from the Bush administration? Let's hope some good can come of this. |
